Pediatric heel pain is a warning sign that a child has a foot condition that needs to be evaluated. A common cause of heel pain in children is a condition called calcaneal apophysitis. This condition usually causes pain and tenderness in the back and bottom of the heel when walking, and the heel is painful when touched. Over-pronation increases the stress on the growth plate, and is therefore a major contributing factor to pediatric heel pain.
